Darley Dale Band

Latest News

The band has begun rehearsing for its programme of concerts in 2020 but sadly will be doing so without the benefit of Roger Jepson’s leadership. After directing the band for a number of years he has decided, with regret, to retire from the post. In his address to members he highlighted the band’s trip to Onzain in 2018 and our success at the Denby Pottery entertainment contest in 2019. We wish him well in 2020 as he enjoys 40th anniversaries in both his family and professional life.

About Us

Darley Dale Band is enjoying a revival. We are attracting players from Darley and the towns and villages around who enjoy practising and performing together to a high standard without the constraints of contesting.  Several of the band members have Championship Section experience however and provide welcome support for others who, for example, learned an instrument at school and have rediscovered the pleasure of banding.

We rehearse from 7.30 to 9.30 on Monday evenings at South Darley Village Hall which is at Cross Green DE4 2JT on the road from Darley Bridge to Wensley.

Our varied programme has included Sunday evenings in Darley Dale, concerts for local community groups, Matlock Beer Festival, the Remembrance parade, Christmas music at St Helen’s and St Mary’s churches and events with the Darley Dale Twinning Association.

Since its formation in 1880 the Band has had its ups and downs – closing down in the 1960s, reforming in 1984 and reviving again in the 2010s. We are now up to full strength and re-establishing our reputation as a friendly band providing high quality entertainment.
